The Afterschool Homework program operates in three locations within the Jane and Finch neighbourhood. Many of our students can’t get the help they need at home, which is why our program is so crucial for their academic improvement.
Summer camps are a great way to connect with youth and build strong relationships when school is not in session. Games and activities are usually structured around a particular motto or theme for the summer.
We create different programs in order to reach youth in a variety of ways. We impact them educationally through our homework clubs, engage them physically through our basketball league, we interact with them recreationally through our Scouts program, and during the summer months through our camps. We're not trying to re-invent the wheel or create fancy programs, we're just trying to impact youth in simple, grassroots, yet powerful ways.
Going beyond the program
We believe in impacting youth by going “beyond the program." This means that when the program is over, we still spend the time to walk students home, organize fun weekend trips and connect with their families. This combination of strong programming coupled with informal mentorship has brought us much success in reaching youth and families.
